Fort Wayne police increase presence on trails

Seek the public’s help after sexual assault

Statement as issued Monday by the Fort Wayne Police Department

Date/Time of Incident: September 22, 2012 at 10:54 a.m.

Location of Incident: Tillman Road and Lower Huntington Road

Suspect Description: Male/black/18-23 years old

5’09" to 5’10", medium build, light complexion

Afro style haircut that is approximately 3 inches in length

Wearing a gray long sleeve Ohio State sweatshirt and red baggy knee length shorts

Fort Wayne, Ind – Investigators are following all possible leads and are hopeful that someone will come forward with suspect information. Though an isolated incident, the Fort Wayne Police Department will have an increased presence on the trail system, and encourages everyone to make their personal safety a priority. The Fort Wayne Police Department offers the following personal safety tips for all walkers, runners, and bicyclists; be their route on a trail way or not:

• Walk or run with a friend;

• Walk or run in familiar areas;

• Avoid secluded or poorly-lit areas, and avoid running at night;

• Share your intended route and expected return time with a family member or friend;

• Avoid using radio headsets or earphones so that you can hear other trail users approaching;

• Be alert and aware of your surroundings and of other people around you;

• Carry a cell phone with you;

• Wear reflective or bright-colored clothing;

• Carry a whistle or personal security device.

This incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
