And Another Thing

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, right, argues a call with head linesman Rodney Russell in the second half of Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

NFL: Officially a mess

Brandon Spikes of the New England Patriots is absolutely right. Foot Locker did call, and the NFL's replacement refs are wanted back at work.

That's what Spikes tweeted after the Pats' loss to Baltimore last night, the capper to another day of adventurous officiating from Roger Goodell's scab refs.

Enough is enough, Rog. This is the NFL, not Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour.

(A reference only Blobophiles of a certain age will get. For you others, I suggest you look it up and educate yourselves).

Anyway .... you guys need to get serious. Sit down with the real officials and hash this thing out. And Real Officials, get over yourselves. You're being offered a pretty good deal here for part-time work. Take it.

Because this cannot go on.

For one thing, no matter how many edicts Roger the Hammer sends out to protect his scabs from criticism, no one on any sideline is going to respect them. Part of this is because they're all trained to know weakness when they see it and go after it; I seriously doubt they'd be doing half the bellyaching they're doing on certain calls if one of the regular officials had made the same call under the same circumstances.

On the other hand, the scabs really are out of their depth here. And they're making a joke out of Goodell's multibillion-dollar enterprise in the process.

So: Settle this thing. Now.
