The Allen County prosecutor says a police-action shooting that killed a man to save the life of a 3-year-old boy held hostage was justified.A 24-year-old Fort Wayne man is suspected in the Tuesday morning robbery of a pharmacy on the city’s northeast side, Fort Wayne police said.
Brandon A. Peters has been identified as a suspect in the robbery, the Fort Wayne Police Department said in a statement.
The statement said a man armed with a handgun demanded Opana at the CVS store, 6220 St. Joe Center Road, shortly before 8:15 a.m.
A Fort Wayne police officer spotted a black Ford F-150 truck on Wheelock Road, where a 12-minute chase began, the statement said.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department put down Stop Sticks, which deflated the truck tires, but city police said the truck did not stop until the area of 14800 Parent Road east of the city.
Peters was taken into custody with no injuries, and city police said no crashes were reported along the chase route.
