When I heard the amazing news that Aung San Suu Kyi, the daughter of General Aung San, was coming to Fort Wayne, I was in disbelief.
My excitement led me to spread the word.
Aung San Suu Kyi (Daw Suu) has always been a role model to me and no doubt to many others as well. I look up to her in many ways with respect for the foundation she has established upon herself.
From my perspective, her morals and life principles are genuinely ideal. I believe that a person of such integrity and dignity should be greatly honored.
Daw Suu inspires me in a number of ways: her leadership in the society, her loyalty and her perseverance.
The emotion I felt as I listened to her speech at the Memorial Coliseum was overwhelming.
I listened carefully to every word she spoke. Each word that came from her was so genuine, profound and without a doubt inspiring. I admire her very much, both as a person and as a fighter for democracy.
Daw Suu has set such an example to the rest of the world with her leadership. Instead of giving up on the fight for democracy in Burma, she chose to play the role as a leader in an attempt to change the way Burma runs, and that’s what I admire very much about her.
Daw Suu mentioned repeatedly about honesty, and yet I didn’t get tired of hearing it because what she said was so true.
When she said that one must not only be loyal to others, and that one should also be loyal to the things one does, I thought that she couldn’t be more correct. The most important thing I caught in her speech about loyalty was that, in order for one to be a true person, one should first be true to oneself.
I can relate to everything she mentioned, especially about honesty.
I believe Daw Suu without a doubt speaks the words of wisdom. It leaves me awestruck that someone could carry all the traits of a good person, and that for sure makes her a truly honorable person.
One last but definitely not least admirable trait of Daw Suu I will mention now is her perseverance.
It’s no secret that life comes with obstacles, but Daw Suu said that what makes one a strong person is overcoming those obstacles. I agree with her statement completely.
After spending many years behind bars, Daw Suu is still a strong person, holding on to her dreams that she shares with her fellow citizens.
Many people would just give in and give up. However, as a fan of Daw Suu, I choose to live my life persistently. The reason is because she truly is an admirable role model to everyone.
