Statement as issued Thursday by INDOT:
STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces traffic pattern changes for the work on SR 127 and SR 727 near Pokagon State Park.
SR 127, between CR 400N and SR 727 (Pokagon State Park entrance), is expected to return to two-way traffic tonight, September 27, weather permitting. All interchange on-ramps and off-ramps at I-69 Exit 354 (old Exit 154, SR 127) are expected to open tonight, as well.
Starting next Thursday, October 4, resurfacing of SR 127, from CR 200N to SR 120, will begin. Although two-way traffic will be permitted during resurfacing, thru traffic will experience intermittent lane restrictions during work hours, with single lane traffic in alternating directions under the direction of flaggers. Motorists should also be aware of merging construction traffic and shoulder work.
The SR 127/SR727 project in its entirety has included pavement replacement on SR 127 from CR 400N approximately to the beginning of SR 727 at the Pokagon State Park entrance. The exit ramp from northbound I-69 to SR 127 has been improved, with added ramp length. SR 127 has narrowed from four lanes to two lanes in this location to accommodate the added ramp length. The project also includes resurfacing SR 727 from the I-69 interchange to the Pokagon State Park gatehouse. The bike lane project for Pokagon State Park will tie into this project, with appropriate pavement markings to delineate the bike route. The road will have a passing lane (also known as a passing blister) constructed at CR 300N, on the west side of SR 127, for southbound traffic in this location.
The project is scheduled to be complete by late November 2012. The contract was awarded to E&B Paving based on the low bid of $4 million.
