Notre Dame landed the point guard it coveted in Demetrius Jackson, and the nation found out about a little earlier than planned.
ESPN posted a video on its website, which has since been taken down, Thursday afternoon with recruiting analyst Dave Telep breaking down Jackson's decision.
"The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have their man," Telep said in the video. "This is a big deal. It's a great day for Notre Dame."
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard from Mishawaka's Marian High School was set to announce his choice between Notre Dame and Illinois at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
Jacksonis rated the No. 19 prospect by ESPN.com, the No. 24 prospect by Rivals.com and No. 27 prospect by Scout.com in the Class of 2013, and he gives the Irish a perfect successor to point guard Eric Atkins after the 2013-14 season when they are expected to move to the ACC.
Jackson averaged 22.3 points as a junior and will likely be in the running for Indiana Mr. Baseball honors this season.
"First and foremost, when (coach) Mike Brey hands the ball off to Demetrius Jackson, he can trust him to make good decisions and run his team," Telep said.
Jackson joins New Haven's V.J. Beachem and Steve Vasturia of Philadelphia in the Irish's recruiting class.
