16 teams to playoffs

The ECHL announced that 16 teams will make the playoffs this season. That's eight from each conference.

In the Eastern Conference, in which the Komets will play, berths will go to the first place team in each division and the next five teams in the conference.

In the Western Conference, which has two divisions, the division winners will get berths along with the next six teams in the conference.

The division winners will get the higher seeds.

The ECHL also announced it has done away with 3- and 7-day injured reserve in favor of two reserve-list spots. There is no minimum stay on those lists, but a team is limited to 20 active players on its roster. There is still a 21-day IR and an unlimited number of players can be on 21-day IR.
