Works board OKs pact with alliance

The Board of Public Works approved a $75,000 contract Tuesday with Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance, an annual deal officials say helps both entities.

City Utilities Director Kumar Menon said utilities usually grow only through geographic expansion or by buying other utilities, but economic development allows growth without either, making the utility healthier and lowering rates for existing customers.

Mick McCollum, interim president for the alliance, said his group is making information about City Utilities much more prominent because they realize how important high-quality water services at competitive prices are to prospective businesses.
