Llama owner dies after pet slips greeting her

DELAWARE, Ohio – A sheriff’s department report says a woman died following a collision with her pet llama, which slipped trying to greet her.

The report by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says Florence Lanahan apparently had a heart attack as she was being transported to a local hospital.

The report said Lanahan, a former Delaware County coroner, called for help Tuesday after her llama, Baby Doll, slipped on wet grass while running to greet her and knocked her down, causing Lanahan to strike her head on concrete.

The report said there’s no evidence the animal was acting maliciously.

The family is working with the Delaware County Humane Society to find homes for the animals on the property.
