Headley pays tribute to her local mom on album

Grammy Award and Tony Award-winner Heather Headley’s latest CD, “Only One in the World,” was released this week and features new songs penned by Headley.

The CD also includes the former Fort Wayne resident singing Whitney Houston’s famed song “Run To You” from the movie “The Bodyguard,” which is featured in “The Bodyguard: A New Musical.” Headley is making her debut this fall in the London stage production as Rachel Marron, considered to be Whitney Houston’s famed role.

Headley also pays tribute to her mother, Hannah, who still lives in Fort Wayne, on the CD with the song “A Little While,” and Headley’s brother, Iric Headley Jr., co-wrote and produced the R&B track “Hey Mama.”

Hannah Headley, calling to tout her daughter’s new CD, said this month that she was surprised and honored by the songs dedicated to her by her children.

Hannah Headley also talked about her daughter’s role in the stage version of “The Bodyguard.” The show is expected to open Dec. 5.
