There are some things Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry is good at. Stand-up comedy is not one of them.

At the dedication of the new home of Ivy Tech’s Aviation Maintenance Technology program at Smith Field recently, Henry began his talk – in an airplane hangar surrounded by aircraft – by saying that he left his notes in the car and was “going to have to wing it.”

Crickets.

Finally, a few people in the audience groaned, and then more laughed not at the joke, but at the attempt.

“You were supposed to laugh a lot sooner,” Henry quipped. “I guess comedy wasn’t my calling.”
