Norwell senior earns baseball honor

Norwell senior Josh VanMeter earned MVP honors at the Perfect Game WWBA Kernels Foundation Championship on Monday.

VanMeter had a .688 batting average (11 for 16) with two triples, three home runs, 10 runs and 10 RBI for the Reds’ Midwest Scout Team.

He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple in the title game, which the Reds lost to the Giants Scout Team 17-11.

The event took place at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

VanMeter went 3 for 3 in the team’s second pool game with two home runs.

In the first of two semifinal games, the Reds defeated the No. 11 seed St Louis Pirates Scout Team 6-5.

The Reds pulled ahead by scoring three runs in both the first and third innings.

VanMeter had a two-run triple in the third and scored what would turn out to be the eventual winning run.

The Reds Scout Team will participate in the Perfect Game WWBA Championship Oct. 25-29 in Jupiter, Fla.
