Heritage has field day

The Heritage offense took a shine to Ball State's fast-paced Fieldturf during the ACAC Day on Saturday.

The Patriots got 269 rushing yards and four touchdowns from senior running back Brenton Lockett en route to a 54-6 rout of Bluffton at Scheumann Stadium, home of the Cardinals.

"That fits our skill-set very well," Lehrman said of Ball State's field surface. "We tend to believe, whether it is true or not, we have more speed than our opponent. Playing on this kind of surface helps."

Lockett, had scoring runs of 64, 59, 49 and 24 yards and had only 11 carries.

"They came in worried about Wil Knapke, one of our best players, and we just hit them with a whole lot of different weapons and the cutback lanes were there," Lockett said. "I had to switch my cleats. (The turf) made me a lot faster."

Conner Sheehan completed 7 of 9 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns to Zach Toles.

Heritage senior Wil Knapke had six carries for 44 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

"What that does is just set up the rest of our offense, and it opens it up for everything else," Lehrman said of Knapke.

Bluffton fell to 5-2 and 2-2 in the ACAC.
