Purdue and Marshall are tied at 14 early in the second quarter Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium.
The Boilermakers scored first on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Caleb TerBush to Gary Bush with 9:26 left in the first quarter.
Marshall came right back with a 12-play scoring drive. Rakeem Cato completed his final eight passes of the drive. The last one was a 4-yard touchdown pass to Antavious Wilson.
Purdue responded quickly. TerBush threw a 41-yard touchdown to Antavian Edison. The drive lasted two plays as Purdue grabbed the 14-7 lead.
Marshall reached Purdue's 11, but Jalani Phillips sacked Cato on third down.
Kawann Short then blocked a field-goal attempt. It's the fifth time Short has blocked a field goal in his career.
Cato completed 15 of 17 passes for 135 yards in the first quarter. TerBush was 7 of 7 for 114 yards.
Cato threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Gator Hoskins early in the second quarter to tie the game at 14.
