Auger returning to K's

Forward Chris Auger's stint trying out with Norfolk of the American Hockey League never really materialized. He didn't pass his physical with the Admirals and is returning to Fort Wayne.

I wasn't able to reach Auger or coach Al Sims, so I don't know specifically what happened.

He had a concussion last year and a severe injury the season before -- I believe it was his shoulder -- but I doubt whatever happened in Norfolk will prevent him from playing for the Komets.

He was pretty darned good in the playoffs and has been skating without problems for the last month here.

There are still six Fort Wayne players trying out in the AHL: Brandon Marino and Jean-Michel Rizk in Norfolk, Daniel Maggio in Chicago, Brent Henley in Connecticut, Kenny Reiter in Bridgeport and Charlie Effinger in Grand Rapids.

Justin A. Cohn, pro sports coordinator for The Journal Gazette, has been covering the Fort Wayne Komets since 1997. A native of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Cohn graduated from Emory University in Atlanta. He can be reached at 260-461-8429 or by email at jcohn@jg.net.
