Investigators blame a meth lab for starting a garage fire this week on Fort Waynes south side, according to police.
At 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to a detached garage at 4225 Bowser Ave., just north of McKinnie Avenue.
Heavy flames in the garage were extinguished, and no one was injured, authorities said.
Fire investigators saw evidence that a meth lab may have caused the fire, and the Fort Wayne Police Departments Meth Suppression Team came to the scene and found remnants of chemical precursors and plastic containers associated with methamphetamine production, police said.
Officers spoke with Stephen Knott, who lives at the address, and learned he had bought the ingredients for the lab that started the fire, police said.
Knott, 27, was preliminarily charged with possession of precursors, a felony. He was in custody Friday at the Allen County Jail, with a bail of $2,500.
