Hometowns mourn slain military members

KOKOMO – Hundreds of people lined the streets of two Indiana cities to pay their respect as the bodies of a soldier and Marine killed in separate attacks in Afghanistan arrived home for funeral services.

The body of 27-year-old Marine Sgt. Bradley Atwell was returned to his hometown Friday and a procession was held through the city. People holding flags lined the streets. The funeral for Atwell, who died Sept. 15 in an insurgent attack, is Saturday.

It was a similar scene Thursday in Lafayette as dozens of motorcyclists joined a procession as the body of 26-year-old Army Staff Sgt. Kyle Osborn of Stockwell was taken to the funeral home. His funeral is set for Saturday at McCutcheon High School.

The military says Osborn died Sept. 13 from combat wounds.
