KENT, Ohio – Kent States Freddy Cortez kicked the winning 25-yard field goal with 6 seconds left in the game to lift Kent State to a 45-43 victory against Ball State on Saturday.
Spencer Keith passed for 295 yards and three touchdowns for Kent State (3-1, 2-0 Mid-American Conference), two of them to Dri Archer, who also returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. He caught three passes for 104 yards.
Spencer was 16 of 31 and threw one interception, and Trayion Durham ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Keith Wenning to Willie Snead was most of the offense for Ball State (3-2, 1-1). Wenning was 32 of 43 for 445 yards and five touchdowns, and Snead caught 14 balls for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Connor Ryan also caught two TD passes.
TRINE 30, KALAMAZOO 20: In Kalamazoo, Mich., the Thunder scored 13 unanswered points – including Tyler Kecks field goals from 40 and 27 yards out – and Ryan Hargraves completed 18 of 24 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown, and he rushed for the 1-yard third-quarter touchdown that put Trine (3-2) up for good.
Michael Inge rushed 25 times for 98 yards and a touchdown, and JaVontae Hence had 11 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. Michael Spears added 11 solo tackles and forced a fumble.
For Kalamazoo (3-2), Aaron McGuire completed 19 of 30 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
MANCHESTER 24, BLUFFTON 14: In Bluffton, Ohio, Nick Williams was 14-of-23 passing for 151 yards and a touchdown and ran for 67 yards and a TD to lead the Spartans (1-4).
Kurt Monix and Ryne Lehman combined for nine catches, 111 yards and a touchdown, and Zach Dashner had 10 solo tackles against Bluffton (3-2).
BUTLER 21, DAYTON 11: In Indianapolis, Trae Heeter ran for 159 yards, most of it on two long touchdown runs to lead the Bulldogs (3-2, 3-0 Pioneer). Heeter scored on runs for 41 and 78 yards against the Flyers (1-4, 0-2).
CONNECTICUT 24, BUFFALO 17: In East Hartford, Conn., running backs Lyle McCombs and Martin Hyppolite combined for 157 rushing yards and two touchdowns to lead the Huskies (3-2) past the Bulls (1-3).
MIAMI (OHIO) 56, AKRON 49: In Akron, Ohio, Zac Dysert threw six touchdown passes and had 624 total yards to lead the RedHawks (3-2, 2-0 MAC) past the Zips (1-4, 0-1).
BOWLING GREEN 48, RHODE ISLAND 8: In Bowling Green, Ohio, Anthon Samuel ran for a career-high three touchdowns to lift the Falcons (2-3) over the Rams (0-4).
NORTHERN ILLINOIS 55, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 24: In Dekalb, Ill., Leighton Settle ran for 152 yards and three touchdowns as the Huskies (4-1, 1-0 MAC) won their 18th straight at home. The Chippewas fell to 2-2, 0-1.
OHIO 37, MASSACHUSETTS 34: In Foxboro, Mass., Beau Blankenship carried 43 times for 269 yards and three touchdowns to lead the unbeaten Bobcats (5-0) past UMass (0-5).
