Victim ID’d; stabbed in chest

18-year-old man’s homicide is No. 24, matching 2011 total

– An 18-year-old man found dead Tuesday in the backyard of a vacant boarded-up house near Weisser Park was stabbed in the chest, the Allen County coroner said Wednesday.

The coroner ruled the death a homicide and identified the man as Deonta Tyrese Bonner. The killing is the 24th homicide in the county this year, matching the 2011 total.

Bonner’s body was discovered about 11:20 a.m. in the middle of the backyard at 2935 Weisser Park Ave., a property one neighbor said had been vacant about five years.

Bonner probably died at the scene and not somewhere else, said Allen County Deputy Coroner Patt Kite, a senior investigator with the coroner’s office.

It’s not clear when Bonner died, according to police.

His body was not significantly decomposed but had suffered “significant injuries,” police said. After an autopsy, the coroner ruled he had been stabbed at least once in the chest.

His body did not appear to be concealed, according to police.

Police also said the house – which records show is owned by an agency that provides housing and other assistance – did not play a role in his death. Still, there are no suspects, and no arrests have been made.

The slaying remains under investigation by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, the coroner’s office and the Fort Wayne Police Department.
