I am honestly worried that Nicky Epstein might be an alien.

An alien from a beautiful, insanely creative planet.

Every one of her books (and there are many) is as interesting, original and fun as the one before it.

Knitting in Circles is no exception.

One hundred (one HUNDRED, people!) circles are included in this book, and Nicky makes good on the promises she makes in the introduction.

"I'll teach you different ways to shape, create, and embellish knitted circles, using traditional methods as well as some I've come up with on my own," she writes, on page 5.

Some of the circles are used in the 20 patterns for garments and accessories in the book. This is really nice, because it allows the knitter to see where he or she can continue forward with some of the circle ideas. There is also a great secion on page 215 on joining circles.

My only gripe with the book is that the type is a bit small and the background used for some of the pattern pages might make photocopies unclear. Otherwise, it is thoughtfully laid out and beautifully photographed.

Circles can be made in the round, from the outside or the inside. But Nicky also looks at circles that are made from the bottom-up, with short-rows, and short-rows that wrap around each other, as in the mind-bending garter spiral.

Overall, a very fun book with lots of creative possibilities.
