Angola wins second straight tennis regional

Angola beat Fairfield 4-1 in the finals of the Concord boys tennis regional on Thursday.

The Hornets (17-4) will face No. 3 Canterbury (18-0) at the Homestead Semistate at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The winner will advance to the state quarterfinals Oct. 12.

Winning for Angola were Jake Stump at No. 1 singles, Cameron Hall at No. 2 singles, Blake Trusty at No. 3 singles and Marcus Arnold and Craig Hofziger at No. 1 doubles.

The match was postponed a day because of inclement weather.

It is the Hornets’ second straight trip to the semistate, losing in a close match last year to Marion 3-2.

Cross country

TRC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Whitko finished third in the girls and boys meets. Brigitt Nemitz led the Wildcats with a seventh-place finish in the girls race in 21:08.

Girls soccer

NORWELL 2, NEW HAVEN 1: The Knights won a semifinal match at the Bellmont Sectional. Alex Haddix and Halee Klopfenstein had the goals for Norwell.

SOUTH SIDE 2, BELLMONT 1: Kaitlyn Hayes and Maria Moore had goals for the Archers in the Bellmont Sectional semifinals.

HOMESTEAD 6, HUNTINGTON NORTH 0: Kelsey Wendlandt had three goals and Ari Nelson two for the Spartans in the semifinals of the Columbia City Sectional.

COLUMBIA CITY 7, NORTH SIDE 0: Hannah Wappes had four goals for the Eagles at the Columbia City Sectional.

WARSAW 9, WAWASEE 0: Meredith Hollar had four goals for the Tigers in the semifinals of the Warsaw Sectional.

Tennis

CULVER ACADEMY 4, WARSAW 1: The Tigers fell in the Culver Academy Regional championship. Will Petro and Connor Singrey got the lone win at No. 2 doubles for Warsaw (13-3).

Volleyball

WOODLAN 2, LEO 0: The Warriors took out the Lions in the finals of the ACAC tournament at Heritage, 25-22, 25-12. Hannah Robbins had 10 kills, while Tori Bontrager added eight kills.

CONCORDIA 3, NORTHROP 0: The Cadets won the SAC regular-season championship by beating the host Bruins, 25-10, 25-17, 25-11. Concordia won its third straight SAC title.

CARROLL 3, DEKALB 0: The visiting Chargers wrapped up the NHC title with the win, 25-15, 25-17, 25-19. Carroll (22-4, 7-0) won its first conference title since 2005.
