Tommy Rees will start his first game this season against the team he last started against.
About an hour before No. 9 Notre Dame (4-0) was set to kickoff against Miami (4-1), Alex Flanagan, a sideline reporter for NBC, posted on her Twitter account that Rees will start in place of Everett Golson.
Golson was benched because of violation of team rules.
Golson started the first four games this season, completing 56.2 percent of his passes and throwing for 641 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
Rees replaced Golson twice to lead Notre Dame to victories. The junior first stepped in for Golson for the final drive in a win over Purdue in Week 2, and he replaced Golson in the second quarter in Week 4's win over Michigan.
