An 80-year-old hunter was injured Saturday in a fall from a tree stand while deer hunting in southeastern Steuben County, according to Indiana conservation officers.
About 7:30 a.m., Carl Folk Jr. of Ligonier was attempting to climb down from the stand after legal hunting hours, officers said.
With the help of his son, he was attempting to maneuver himself around to step off the tree stand and onto a ladder leading to the ground.
During his step, he lost his balance and fell about 24 feet to the ground.
Folk was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne for treatment of his injuries. The extent of his injuries were not immediately known, but they were not thought to be life-threatening, officers said. He was listed in serious condition Sunday afternoon.
