Man slashed to death near NYC's Union Square

NEW YORK (AP) — A 25-year-old man is dead after a grisly slashing near New York City's Union Square.

The attack happened at 4:30 a.m. Sunday on 14th Street near Fifth Avenue.

Published reports say the unidentified victim was slashed in the neck and torso and his ear was cut off.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police will examine surveillance video from nearby businesses in hopes of spotting the killer.
