MUNCIE – Jordan Lynch accounted for 402 yards and gave Northern Illinois the lead for good with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Akeem Daniels, and the Huskies rallied to defeat Ball State 35-23 on Saturday.
Ball State junior quarterback Keith Wenning – who threw for 434 yards and set school records for pass attempts (71) and completions (42) – had put the Cardinals ahead 23-14 in the third quarter with a short TD run.
But Lynch, who ran for 207 yards on 29 carries, scored on a 12-yard run, and his TD pass to Daniels with 4:58 to play put Northern Illinois (5-1, 2-0 Mid-American) ahead 28-23. Lynch sealed it with a 71-yard run, his third rushing TD, with 3:03 left.
Lynch was 16-of-23 passing for 195 yards and no interceptions.
Jamill Smith had 14 catches for 146 yards for the Cardinals (3-3, 1-2).
TRINE 27, ALBION 22: In Angola, the Thunder withstood a second-half rally to win its homecoming game.
The Thunder (4-2, 2-0 MIAA) built a 24-12 halftime lead, but Albion (3-2, 0-1) got within 24-22 early in the fourth quarter.
In addition to the 83 yards rushing, Hargraves completed 11 of 15 passes for 166 yards.
MANCHESTER 34, DEFIANCE 28: In North Manchester, quarterback Nick Williams ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to give the Spartans (2-4, 2-2 HCAC) their second consecutive win.
Williams ran for 72 yards and passed for 182 more.
BUTLER 56, VALPARAISO 17: In Valparaiso, Trae Heeter scored three touchdowns in the first quarter as the Bulldogs chewed up their in-state rival to earn their first road victory of the season.
Butler (4-2, 3-0 Pioneer League)amassed 598 yards of total offense.
Jake Hutson had 16 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns for the winless Crusaders (0-5, 0-2).
KENT STATE 41, EASTERN MICHIGAN 14: In Ypsilanti, Mich., Dri Archers three touchdowns helped the Golden Flashes spoil the Eagles homecoming.
Archer scored on a 5-yard pass from Spencer Keith early in the second quarter, then ran the second-half kickoff back 98 yards to put the Golden Flashes (4-1, 3-0 MAC) ahead 24-7.
Bronson Hill ran 68 yards for a score for the Eagles (0-5, 0-2).
BOWLING GREEN 24, AKRON 10: In Akron, Ohio, Matt Schilz threw two touchdown passes to Alex Bayer to lead a second-half comeback for the Falcons (3-3, 1-1 MAC).
Bowling Green held the Zips (1-5, 0-2), who gained 280 first-half yards, to 36 in the second half.
TOLEDO 50, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 35: In Toledo, Mark Singer and Jermaine Robinson returned interceptions for fourth-quarter touchdowns to help the Rockets (5-1, 2-0 MAC) preserve their fifth straight victory.
The Chippewas fell to 2-3, 0-2.
OHIO 38, BUFFALO 31: In Athens, Ohio, Ryan Boykin ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns and Dazmond Pattersons 100-yard kickoff return propelled the Bobcats (6-0, 2-0 MAC) from an early 14-0 deficit.
WESTERN MICHIGAN 52, MASSACHUSETTS 14: In Kalamazoo, Mich., Tyler Van Tubbergen threw five touchdown passes and ran for a score as the Broncos (3-3, 1-1 MAC) rolled over the Minutemen (0-6, 0-3).
