Martin Pastura, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, outlines plans Tuesday for the Parkview Physicians Group aquatic center, a $1.8 million outdoor project at the Jorgensen YMCA.

Southwest ‘Y’ adding new outside aquatic area

– The southwest branch of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne hopes to open an aquatic center with activities for all ages just in time for summer 2013.

The Jorgensen Family YMCA, 10313 Aboite Center Road, and Parkview Physicians Group broke ground on the $1.8 million outdoor aquatics center Tuesday. The center will bear the Parkview Physicians Group name as the organization made a $750,000 donation.

“We are proud to support this amazing new aquatic center,” said Jill Ostrem, chief operations officer of Parkview Physicians Group. “This is one more way Parkview and the YMCA can make a positive difference together.”

The new aquatic center will feature six 25-foot lap lanes, beach entry with a splash zone play area, toddler pool with fountain, zip line, snack shop and access from both inside and outside the YMCA facility.

Future construction to the center could include a playground, picnic area, water slide and climbing wall.

“This outdoor aquatic center will enhance our ability to develop character in young people, help seniors prolong the independence and support health in spirit, mind and body for people of all ages and from all walks of life,” said Martin Pastura, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.

The Jorgensen branch serves more than 13,000 members including children, adults and families.
