The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari featuring Dennis James on the Grande Page Pipe Organ
The feature silent film presentation is the 1919 film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and is one of the greatest horror movies of the silent film era and is cited as the first film to introduce a twist ending. The setting is an insane asylum and the cabinet refers to a coffin-like storage locker in which Dr. Caligari keeps his sleepwalking patient, Cesare. Dr. Caligari entrances Cesare into committing a series murders. Death, murder and mayhem are combined with the sounds of the horror dripping from the Embassy walls when accompanied by Dennis James on the Grande Page Theatre Pipe Organ.
For more than 38 years, Dennis James has played a pivotal role in the international revival of silent films with live music. James began his career as a professional film accompanist at Indiana University while a music student in the late 1960s. He now tours with his own Silent Film Concerts production company to professionally perform to silent films with solo organ, piano and chamber ensemble accompaniments in addition to presentations with major symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. and Canada. James was named Hollywood's International Ambassador of the Silent Film, bringing silent film programming around the world, most recently with sellout appearances at the Sydney Opera House in Australia and at the dedication of new Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore.
