Beano remembered

Farewell and adieu to ESPN college football analyst Beano Cook, who died in his sleep Wednesday night at the age of 81.

Beano was not your normal analyst, for those who don't remember. His fashion sense came from the Unmade Bed school. His delivery style was Early American Crotchety.

And though he's remembered best for predicting Notre Dame quarterback Ron Powlus would win two (or maybe it was three) Heisman Trophies, that's not the line I'll always remember him for.

The signature Beano line for me actually had to do with baseball, on the occasion of then-commissioner Bowie Kuhn announcing that the returning Iranian hostages would get free passes to major-league baseball games.

Beano's take: "Haven't they suffered enough?"
