A motorcyclist badly hurt in an August crash in Fort Wayne has died, the Allen County Coroner’s Office said Thursday.
Glenn Howerton, 60, of Eureka Springs, Ark., died Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital. His death is the 31st traffic death in the county this year, the coroner’s office said.
Howerton and his wife, Joy, who was 56 at the time, were riding a Harley-Davidson south on Interstate 69 in north Fort Wayne the evening of Aug. 29, authorities said.
Howerton was operating the motorcycle, and he lost control while getting on the ramp to go east on Interstate 469. The couple were thrown from the motorcycle, according to authorities.
Both riders were taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Howerton was transferred to a local rehabilitation center. When he developed complications, he was admitted to Lutheran Hospital, the coroner’s office said.
According to a Facebook page promoting a Nov. 3 benefit for the couple, the two suffered severe brain trauma. Joy Howerton continues to recover in Fort Wayne.
The couple belonged to the Carroll County (Ark.) chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. Glenn Howerton was chapter president and Joy Howerton was the secretary and treasurer, according to the group’s website.
