Carroll cross country seeks regional titles

The Carroll girls cross country team will put yet another streak on the line Saturday.

After extending its sectional-winning streak to 13 Tuesday at Northrop, the No. 3 Chargers will go for regional championship No. 12 in a row at West Noble.

“It is fun for them to be a part of it,” Carroll coach Zach Raber said. “The regional streak is a little tougher. That one has been a lot closer over the years. But that’s the one we hold as the longest current streak in the state, so that’s pretty cool.”

The all-time record is 14 straight by Carmel from 1990 to 2003.

The second-ranked Carroll boys are also looking to win its third straight regional.

At the Culver Academy Regional, defending individual state champ Ashley Erba of Warsaw will look to take another step in the postseason. Erba won the Culver Academy Sectional in 17:29.7.

Other area regionals will be at Marion and Elkhart’s Ox Bow Park.
