Robber targets Broadway bar after closing

– A robber forced his way into the Brass Rail, a bar near downtown, early Friday and stole cash, Fort Wayne police said.

The bar had closed, and a lone worker was about to lock one of the doors when it swung open. A man barged in and accosted the worker, said officer Raquel Foster, a police spokeswoman.

The worker felt something against his back but never saw a weapon. The man claimed he had a lookout outside, but the worker did not see one, Foster said.

The man ordered the worker to lie facedown on the floor and threatened to kill him if he got up. The man took an undisclosed amount of cash from the bar’s safe and from the worker’s wallet before fleeing, she said.

About 3:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the bar at 1121 Broadway, south of West Jefferson Boulevard. The robber was described as a 6-foot-tall man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, ski mask and a bandanna over his face.
