Police: Ohio man steals car with 3-year-old inside

NILES, Ohio – Police say a 3-year-old boy is safe after a northeast Ohio man allegedly stole a car the boy was sleeping in, unaware the child was inside.

Police say the car was stolen after the child’s father left the vehicle running outside a house late Thursday in Niles while he went inside to pick up another child.

WKBN-TV in Youngstown reports Friday the boy was recovered when an off-duty Warren police officer spotted the stolen car about six hours later in nearby Lordstown.

Suspect Ross Francis was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property, kidnapping and theft and was in Trumbull County Jail Friday where records did not list an attorney.

WKBN reports Francis was released from a four-month stay in the jail shortly before the car was stolen.
