Mr. Mad Ant signs for another season

Mr. Mad Ant is a Mad Ant again.

Guard Ron Howard, 29, who has been with the Mad Ants since the team’s inception into the NBA Development League in 2007, has been signed for the 2012-13 season, the team announced.

Howard, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who attended Valparaiso, averaged 17.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 31 games with the Ants last season.

He has played in 168 games with the Ants over the past five D-League seasons and has averaged 16.3 points and 3.9 rebounds.

“Ron is a tremendous asset to this team,” first-year coach Duane Ticknor said in a team release. “He’s a veteran in our league, is incredibly quick, and has the ability to score from anywhere on the court. I have high expectations for him this season.”

The Mad Ants begin their sixth season in the D-League when they open Nov. 23 against the Erie BayHawks at Memorial Coliseum.
