MUNCIE – Jahwan Edwards ran for three touchdowns, including one in overtime, to lift Ball State to a 30-24 homecoming victory Saturday over Western Michigan.
Edwards, who had 138 yards on 23 carries, won it for the Cardinals (4-3, 2-2 Mid-American) with a 15-yard run in overtime after Western Michigan missed a field goal on its opening possession.
Keith Wenning was 27-of-43 passing for 265 yards and a touchdown, an 11-yarder to Jamill Smith that put Ball State up 24-21 with 1:01 to go. The Cardinals had trailed 21-7 in the second quarter.
But Andrew Haldeman sent the game into overtime with a 52-yard field goal with 0.5 second remaining.
Edwards scored the games first touchdown on an 11-yard run, then got the Cardinals within 21-17 in the third quarter on a 23-yard run.
Tyler Van Tubbergen threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Josh Schaffer for the Broncos (3-4, 1-2).
OHIO 34, AKRON 28: In Athens, Ohio, Tyler Tettleton threw two touchdown passes, caught one and rushed for 65 yards in a record-setting day for the Bobcats (7-0, 3-0).
Tettleton, who came in tied for the all-time lead in touchdown passes for Ohio with 38, opened the scoring on the receiving end of a 39-yard pass from Landon Smith just over three minutes in. Tettleton then threw a 13-yarder to Donte Foster to set the TD pass milestone and put the Bobcats up 14-0.
Dalton Williams threw for 298 yards with four TDs and two interceptions for Akron (1-6, 0-3).
TOLEDO 52, EASTERN MICHIGAN 47: In Ypsilanti, Mich., Bernard Reedy scored three touchdowns in a wild third quarter as the Rockets (6-1, 4-0) held on to beat the Eagles (0-6, 0-3).
In the third quarter, there were eight touchdowns, four by each team. Reedy scored on an 89-yard kickoff return after the Eagles Bronson Hill ran 47 yards for a TD. Hill ran for another score, for 58 yards, but 13 seconds later, Reedy caught a 65-yard TD from Terrance Owens. Hill answered 19 seconds later with a 70-yard run. Reedy later hauled in a 59-yard touchdown pass. He finished with 11 receptions for 237 yards.
Hill had 283 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries for Eastern Michigan.
KENT STATE 31, ARMY 17: In West Point, N.Y., Dri Archer rushed for 222 yards – including an explosive 87-yard touchdown late in the game – and completed a trick 24-yard touchdown pass as the Golden Flashes (5-1) beat the Black Knights (1-5), who fell to a MAC opponent for the sixth straight time.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS 45, BUFFALO 3: In DeKalb, Ill., Jordan Lynch ran for a pair of first-half touchdowns and threw two scoring passes in the second half for the Huskies (6-1, 3-0). Lynch ran for 129 yards and completed 13 of 20 passes for 232 yards.
Devon Hughes caught nine passes for 105 yards for the Bulls (1-5, 0-3).
BOWLING GREEN 37, MIAMI (OHIO) 12: In Bowling Green, Ohio, Booboo Gates scored on a 37-yard interception return and Matt Schilz threw two touchdown passes as the Falcons (4-3, 2-1) routed the RedHawks (3-4, 2-1).
Bowling Greens Anthon Samuels carried 22 times for 171 yards and caught a 7-yard scoring pass. Schilz completed 20 of 27 for 235 yards.
