Youth rabbit hunt set for Salamonie

– Salamonie Lake and the Indiana Beaglers Alliance are the co-hosts for a youth rabbit hunt Oct. 27.

The hunt will run from 7 a.m. to noon and begin at the Salamonie Interpretive Center and will be followed by a free lunch and a wildlife cleaning instructional session. Youths ages 11 to 17 are eligible.

Each hunter will have a private mentor, and parents are also encouraged to accompany their children.

Youth hunters may hunt on either a valid Indiana youth hunting license or apprentice license, and all participants are encouraged to have attended and passed a hunter education course, which is required for obtaining an Indiana youth hunting license but not an apprentice license.

Youth licenses are $7 and are available at the interpretive center the morning of the hunt.

Preschool classes on owls set

Salamonie Preschool will hold classes on owls Wednesday at the Salamonie Interpretive Center.

The class – for preschool age children – will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and again from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Each Salamonie preschool program has a nature theme and is designed to enhance the preschooler’s basic education. Activities include learning the alphabet, crafts, social interaction and time outdoors. The program fee is $2 per child.

To register, call Upper Wabash Interpretive Services at 260-468-2127.
