RICHMOND, Ind. – Police say an eastern Indiana man killed while trying to rob a pizzeria was shot once in the chest and twice in the hip by the owner of the store.
Richmond police told the Palladium-Item that 30-year-old Freddie McCoy was wearing a ski mask and gloves and standing at the counter when he was shot Saturday night. They did not say if McCoy was armed.
Capt. Jim Branam said there were seven or eight employees in the store at the time of the shooting but no customers.
Property records identify the owner as Terry Padgett. A message seeking comment was left at the pizzeria Monday, but a status update on its Facebook page says “we will not be discussing the events that unfolded Saturday night.”
