Boy, 4, run over by lawn mower

PATASKALA, Ohio – Authorities say a 4-year-old boy was badly injured when a neighbor on a riding lawn mower accidentally backed over him in central Ohio.

The Licking County sheriff’s office said Joseph Loughry was in critical condition Tuesday at a Columbus hospital.

Capt. Dave Starling said the boy was struck by the lawn tractor around 6 p.m. Monday in Pataskala, about 20 miles east of Columbus. The 43-year-old neighbor told deputies that he didn’t know the boy was behind him or even in his yard when he backed up.

Starling said the boy suffered serious leg injuries. The neighbor was treated for shock at a hospital.

Starling said the case will be presented to the prosecutor’s office for review, following standard policy.
