Cavs’ soccer coach to guide all-stars

– Canterbury boys soccer coach Greg Mauch was selected as one of six high school soccer coaches who will participate in the second annual Choice Hotels International High School All-American Game on Dec. 8 at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

“This is not something I or any coach would even think about or consider as a possibility so to be invited is incredibly humbling,” said Mauch, who will coach on the East squad. “Looking over last year’s list of coaches and then this year’s, there is still disbelief that I am on that list. No coach works at this craft with something like this as a goal so if it happens it makes you take stock in all that has happened in your career mainly because of the players you have been blessed to work with, and the support of your family and the support of your administration.”

The coaches, three for the East and three for the West, have combined for more than 1,600 career wins.

Mauch is 437-127-52 overall and 379-117-49 at Canterbury and has been named the Indiana Coach of the Year five times.

The game is being held the same weekend and in the same location as the men’s NCAA Division I College Cup.

Mauch has led the Cavaliers to four state championships, including the Class A title last year. The No. 5 Cavaliers (13-6-1) will play No. 7 Bethany Christian (17-5) in the LaVille Semistate at 10 a.m. Saturday.
