Bishop Luers' forfeit is official

The IHSAA confirmed Wednesday that the high school governing body has received an email from the Bishop Luers administration regarding an ineligible player who competed in a win against Wayne, resulting in the game being forfeited.

The unidentified player participated in the Knights' 27-7 win over the Generals on Sept. 14, but a completed athletic transfer report was not filed.

The loss drops the three-time defending Class 2A state champions' record from 6-3 to 5-4 entering sectional play Friday. Wayne improves to 2-7.

The game against the Generals was the first one without longtime coach and athletic director Matt Lindsay, who was placed on administrative leave a day before the game and fired two days later after videos described as "inappropriate" were found on his computer.

The game was coached by Lindsay's son Kyle Lindsay, the team's offensive coordinator. Kyle Lindsay served as the interim coach for the game, while the last two games have had Keefer as the interim coach. It was the first game without Matt Lindsay on the Luers sideline after 33 years as an assistant and head coach.

It is the second straight season the program has had to forfeit a game after having to do the same to the South Side game during its 14-1 campaign.

New Bishop Luers athletic director Jim Huth was unavailable for comment Wednesday morning.
