Tommy Rees will make his second start of the season for Notre Dame today against BYU, the university announced about a half hour before kickoff.
Rees is starting instead of Everett Golson, who suffered a concussion last week against Stanford. Golson wasn't able to start practicing until Wednesday as he recovered from the concussion.
Rees started for the Irish against Miami on Oct. 6 when Golson was benched for being late to a meeting. Rees only lasted three plays against the Hurricanes before Golson took over.
Rees replaced Golson in close wins over Purdue and Michigan and has completed 17 of 25 passes for 218 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.
Golson was in full uniform during warmups and participated in most drills. The sophomore has completed 79 of 135 passes for 968 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions, and he has lost four fumbles this season.
Coach Brian Kelly said the only reason he would make a change at starting quarterback would be because of health concerns for Golson, and Kelly said he prepared Rees, Golson and Andrew Hendrix to play today.
