Warsaw boys soccer overcome obstacles

Warsaw overcame a lot of adversity to reach its first state boys soccer championship Saturday in a 2-1 overtime win against Hamilton Southeastern.

The Tigers (13-8-2) had a lot of ups and downs along the way.

First star senior Diego Lopez and coach Scott Bauer both missed time to start the season, then late in the regular season, the team had to forfeit seven games because of an ineligible player.

And then in the semistate title game Saturday against the Royals, the players were dealing the cramps, including Lopez and Grant Allbritten who had to be helped off the field at points in the game.

Despite it all the Tigers, who suffered a significant graduation loss from last year's talented team, a state title game awaits next Saturday against Columbus North at IUPUI.
