The Komets got quite a test from Evansville goaltender Paul Karopwich, but they emerged with a 4-3 victory in an overtime shootout Saturday night at Memorial Coliseum.
Center Colin Chaulk netted the winning goal in the fifth round and goalie Marco Cousineau made a stop to cement it, as Fort Wayne improved to 2-1-1.
The Komets also got goals in the shootout from Jean-Michel Rizk and Josh Brittain, as they outscored the IceMen (0-2-1) 3-2 in the extra session.
The IceMen knocked Chris Auger out of the game early with an open-ice check.
Fort Wayne outshot Evansville 37-24.
