A man escaped injury because of some padding in his back pocket when he was shot Tuesday night after trying to chase down three armed robbers.
The three men entered the Elks Lodge on Oxford Street about 9 p.m. and demanded money from the register and bar patrons. The men then left the bar through the rear door, according to city police.
A man inside the lodge at the time of the robbery chased the men into an alley, where he was held at gunpoint and told to empty his pockets.
The robbers then began shooting at him, police said, and a bullet hit him in the back pocket of his jeans, striking his wallet and preventing injury. Police found 10 shell casings in the alley, a report said.
A police dog was brought in to track the robbers but lost the scent nearby.
On Thursday, a woman brought a wallet containing one of the victims identification cards to police. The woman said she found the wallet near her vehicle, which had been parked at Holton Avenue, the report said.
