The Mastodons women's soccer team picked up its first-ever win over the Oakland on Saturday evening in the first game of a women's / men's doubleheader, and in the process climbed into first place in the Summit League standings with a 3-2 win.
With the win the squad improved to 8-6-1 and 4-1-1 in Summit League action, while Oakland fell to 7-5-3 and 4-2-0 in league play.
The Mastodons trailed 2-0 after 28 minutes with but fought back with a goal 34:13 into the game when Sydney Hoareau found a waiting Arianne Mason.
Less than four minutes later it was Mason that found a waiting Hoareau, beating Oakland keeper Shannon Coley left post and knotting the score at two apiece 38:03 into the game.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half the Mastodons got the game-winner from Danielle Bishop, who took a pass from Erin Gill and chipped it over the Oakland goalkeeper's head. It was her fourth goal of the year and third game-winner.
The Mastodons return to action with back-to-back home matches to end the season when the squad play host to Western Illinois at 7 p.m. Friday and IUPUI at 1 p.m. Sunday.
