Golson set to start for Irish

Everett Golson cleared his final hurdle and will start at quarterback for Notre Dame when the No. 5 Irish (7-0) play at No. 8 Oklahoma (5-1).

The sophomore was put through a strenuous workout Monday to make sure he was ready to return after suffering a concussion against Stanford on Oct. 13. Golson didn't play in last Saturday's win over BYU.

"It went very well, he feels great, very confident," coach Brian Kelly said during his Tuesday news conference. "We wanted to do that more because he hadn't had the opportunity to get out there and run, and we didn't want to wait until Saturday. He's good. He's 100 percent. He'll start for us against Oklahomaon Saturday."

The Irish will try to improve to 8-0 for the first time in a decade against a Sooners program that is 79-4 at home under coach Bob Stoops and has out scored its last three opponents 156-48.

"Our kids are certainly excited about the challenge of playing Oklahoma," Kelly said. "We know the challenge in front of us."
