The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Dorel Juvenile Group on Tuesday announced a voluntary recall of Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets.
About 97,000 units from the Columbus, Ind., company are involved in the recall.
The bottom locking mechanism can fail to lock properly if a spring is not installed, allowing the bassinet to tip to one side and cause infants to roll to the side of the bassinet, the recall notice said.
Dorel has received 17 reports involving infants primarily younger than 3 months old; in two of them the infants were reported to have had breathing difficulties.
The recalled bassinets have the following model numbers: 10632, 10639, 10832, 10835, 10839 and BT021. The number can be found under the mattress, on the top surface of the mattress support board or on the wash and care label, the recall said.
The bassinets were sold at Target, Toys R Us and Sears stores nationwide and online at Ebay and other websites between December 2007 and January 2011 for about $150.
Consumers are encouraged to immediately stop using the recalled bassinets and contact Dorel for a free repair kit, which includes a spring and new instructions for assembly. Contact the company toll-free at 877-416-0165 or go to www.djgusa.com and click on Safety Notices for more information.
