For the first time since the 1979-80 season, Indiana is No. 1 in The Associated Press men's basketball preseason poll.
The Hoosiers received 43 first-place votes to occupy the top spot in the poll, which was released Friday.
This is the third time the Hoosiers have been a preseason No. 1 in the poll. In addition to the start of the 1979-80 season, IU also was No. 1 before the 1975-76 season.
Louisville was second in this year's preseason poll. The Cardinals had 20 first-place votes. Kentucky received two first-place votes and is third in the poll.
Ohio State, which features Bishop Luers graduate Deshaun Thomas, is fourth and Michigan is fifth.
The Big Ten has five teams in the top 25. Michigan State (No. 14) and Wisconsin (No. 23) joined the Hoosiers, Buckeyes and Wolverines in the poll.
