Plane crashes during takeoff on Indy's south side

INDIANAPOLIS — Authorities say a small airplane has crashed in a field on the south side of Indianapolis.

Police and firefighters responded to the crash shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday.

Indianapolis Fire Department spokeswoman Angela Hiestand says the pilot was trying to take off and didn't make it off the ground. She says firefighters at the scene told her the aircraft rolled.

She says the pilot and a passenger were taken to a hospital. She isn't sure of their condition.
