  • Komets affiliate with Avs, Lake Erie
The Komets have aligned with the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and their American Hockey League team, the Lake Erie Monsters.
  • This is sad news
Former Komets star Joe Kastelic, who once owned the record for most goals scored in the IHL, died Wednesday at 81. He skated for the Komets from 1953 to 1957 and then again in 1960-61.
  • Major signings for Komets
The Komets bolstered their roster with a potential No. 1 goaltender, a former first-round NHL draft pick, a familiar face and player who should be popular with the fans.
Why isn't it the Walleyes?

Fired up in Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio -- I can't remember being this excited about a regular-season Komets road game in a long time.

It must because I've written so many times about games in Toledo without ever having been here. Plus, having grown up in the Detroit area, Toledo hockey was always on my mind a little bit.

Interesting note: I'm right by the Toledo Speedway and my racing friend tells me that not only is it awesome to drive there, but you could probably fit Baer Field inside of it.

I will be back during the game with plenty of updates on the Komets vs. the Walleye.

Speaking of which, why isn't it Walleyes? That is plural of the fish.
