KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Komets and Kalamazoo Wings are tied at 1 after one period at Wings Stadium, and the Komets are fortunate to be in this position.
The Wings dominated the period, tallying six of the first seven shots, and 14 of the first 15.
Included in that run was a power-play goal by John Armstrong, who took a pass from behind the net by the ageless Kory Karlander to beat Marco Cousineau.
In the final minute, the Komets got a goal from Jean-Michel Rizk -- his second in two games -- after Brandon Marino fed him a pass and Rizk shot it between a defender's legs.
This is the smallest crowd I have ever seen for a game here. I'm sure we can thank the 3 p.m. start. It's OK, I'm sure (insert sarcasm here) it will be mobbed for the North American Hockey League game here tonight.
By the way, the Komets should get a portion of the gate; the Komets fans are about 33 percent of the crowd.
